Marayoor Saraswati Vidya Mandir Project

Kerala, God’s own country is enriched with natural resources and beauty. And this puts it rightly on the world tourist map.

Marayoor is one of the famous tourist spots in the Idukki District of Kerala state, South India. It is the land where nature, history and culture merge harmoniously into tourism. Marayoor is the only place in Kerala that has natural sandal wood forests. It is 42 kilometers from Munnar. A scenic drive from Muvatapuzha through Kodamangalam and Adimali will get you there in about 2 hours. The people of Marayoor base their daily livelihood on agriculture in some very unfavorable climatic conditions. Government sponsored development projects have failed to reach the tribal’s in the area over the years.

The children in the area are the most affected. They have no proper schooling and are forced to start working with their parents from very a young age. The lack of proper guidance and facilities like shelter and food has made a dramatic difference to the society on the whole drawing them to crime and other activities.

The Sri Saraswati Vidya Mandhiram is attended by children of Marayoor and Kanthaloor panchayats.  The population of these two panchayats is about 22000. Most of the people are from the tribal sects of the region. The school existed on 25 cents of land. It had only two rooms and was working from a very old building with tin sheet roofing. The building was in a much depleted state. The extreme climate conditions often forced the school authorities to shut down the school.

The Saraswati Vidya Mandhiram is an accredited school affiliated to the Bharatheeya Vidhya Nikethan. Education is imparted free of cost.

Upon visiting the school and in consultation with the management and the trust of the school, Seva Darshan Kuwait has taken up the responsibility to build a residential school complex for the children of this area.

With a vision ‘To Provide a New Dimension To Education’, our members took up the responsibility to involve the expatriate population in Kuwait in helping to contribute for this good cause.

In support of this project Seva Darshan Kuwait conducted a mega event called Bharat Darshan 2010. The massive response we received ensured the successful completion of the project.
